Book Update: ‘So Beautiful it Hurts’ Goes to Design

This book began life the day after one of the most violent storms I’ve ever experienced, and has been a whirlwind ever since.

But after eight years, two moves, COVID, social upheaval, and the passing of a few members of the behind-the-scenes “MSCL family,” So Beautiful it Hurts: The Making of My So-Called Life is finally being laid out. 

Fingers crossed, it will go on sale in November of this year.

A few days ago I typed the words “The End” on the final chapter. Not that this was necessary, but rather because I felt like I had to do something to mark the occasion.

Naturally, I was just fooling myself. There are still two or three short biographies yet to write, and the whole book to edit one last time once it’s all “on the page,” but still…

To those who’ve stuck with this project since the beginning, thank you for your patience. For those who’ve come to it more recently, my thanks as well. This has been a long time in coming. Not just this book, but some formal record of how this show – that has remained in our hearts for 30-plus years – came to be made.
