In which we remember when Rickie and Delia made the world just a little bit happier.
One of the great surprises for me while conducting interviews for this book has been discovering that so many of the people involved in the making of My So-Called Life are as warm and engaging as you’d always hoped they were. Not only does that apply to Senta Moses Mikan (Brian’s almost-girlfriend, Delia), but she also seems like one of those people who is always the smartest person in the room. (An observation seconded by MSCL director Elodie Keene when I brought it up later on.) So naturally we talked about her and Wilson Cruz’s mad moves at the World Happiness Dance in “Life of Brian”...
“Some of the stuff toward the end of the dance is just Wilson and I riffing off of each other and having fun because we were so comfortable,” she explains. “I remember that despite the fact that I initially loved that purple sweater that I was wearing, by the end of the day I really hated it; it was so hot and itchy, just from sweating. And I remember the poor makeup woman would have to come in and pat us down…
Don’t miss Senta’s latest personal project – the funny web TV series Badge of a Quitter, in which she stars; she also co-wrote and co-produced it with Carla Cackowski. (And it’s edited by her husband, Joe.) Watch episodes here!
"But c’mon, who would not want to spend an entire day dancing with Wilson Cruz? I’m hard pressed to find one person. …I mean to this day when I hear that song I think of Wilson. Sometimes I’ll even text him or tweet him and say ‘The song is on! I’m ready, where ya at?’”
